Who is speaking?

Katie Noakes, The Landmark London’s calligrapher is the founder of London Calligraphy. She has been composing beautiful letters for the majority of her career, working with the likes of Buckingham Palace, Chanel and The Landmark London Hotel.
Katie also offers a range of classes teaching the art of calligraphy, helping people discover their own journey and handwriting style with ink.

London Calligraphy illustrates and design handwritten pieces for luxury brands, events and a select number of weddings worldwide. Katie founded London Calligraphy after realising that just a few words beautifully presented on a note card gives the sense of something truly special.

The Power of Words

Now that we’re in the depths of the coronavirus lockdown, our calligrapher has found herself writing kind words to stay connected with loved ones now more than ever before.
Learning a new skill and taking time to stay in contact with loved ones by writing letters are often put on the bottom of our to-do lists in our usual busy lifestyles. Now that most of us have been forced into a slower pace of life we can seize the opportunity to spend time on ourselves and find the key to a positive time in quarantine.

Start your calligraphy journey

London Calligraphy has put together a range of calligraphy care packages that will guide you through calligraphy practice from the comfort of your own home. Katie explains that ‘in this unprecedented time, activities like ours are certainly not deemed essential, however, from speaking with many of my students, I know how calligraphy can bring a sense of calm to people’s lives.’

Katie’s top 5 Quarantine letter writing tips:

  • Letters don’t need to be long. Three simple words such as ‘I miss you’ sometimes have just as much, if not more impact than a 4-page long letter.
  •  Use nice paper, or if you’re feeling creative add a simple illustration on the envelope or corner of the letter.
  •  Include something thoughtful such as a recipe from a magazine that the recipient might like to cook, or an old photo that will bring back happy memories.
  • Never write the post or zip code in calligraphy. The letters can often be misread by the postal scanners and therefore take much longer to arrive!
  • Hand write the letter – This adds a personal touch. Handwritten letters are often kept and cherished by the recipient.
